Kansas City Chiefs (14-3) vs Philadelphia Eagles (14-3)

    Game Preview:
Only 3 Super Bowls in NFL history have had tighter spreads than this one, as the 3 Lombardi matchups below each featured a one-point favorite:

2019 (LIV) – Kansas City Chiefs (-1) vs San Francisco 49ers
2014 (XLIX) – New England Patriots (-1) vs Seattle Seahawks
    1970 (V) – Dallas Cowboys (-1) vs Baltimore Colts

Neither of these franchises lack familiarity with the big stage, as the Chiefs are making their 3rd Super Bowl appearance in 4 years, and the Eagles are back for the first time since hoisting the Lombardi trophy in 2017.

While superstars Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts will deservedly get the bulk of the attention, credit or blame for whatever happens on Sunday, elite offensive line play has been the true catalyst behind the high frequency of homerun plays we’ve witnessed all season.

Both of these teams averaged 28.7 points per game this season, locking them in a tie for the best mark in the NFL.

As fans we are drawn to the playmakers putting up the big fantasy football stats, but the big uglies up front will dictate the outcome of this game.

Keeping their big-armed signal callers clean in the pocket, and allowing them to extend plays, will lead to the dazzling downfield fireworks we expect to see when either of these franchises are under the bright lights.

I’m leaning on the intangibles with the pick on this one, as Philadelphia just seems like a team of destiny this year.

We entered the season with questions about if Hurts was the long-term option. Well that question has been answered loud and clear, and that long-term price to lock in Hurts just skyrocketed for the Eagles.

In terms of the game itself, this just feels like it means more to Philadelphia, and maybe that’s because the Super Bowl experience has become so common for Andy Reid’s Chiefs.

The average total in Super Bowl history has been 46 points and I think we easily cruise past that number tonight at State Farm Stadium in Arizona.

Grease the poles in Philly, because win or lose I expect an outpouring of mayhem in the streets downtown, but I’m expecting the shenanigans to be of the more happily-destructive type.

Cue the Rocky soundtrack! Fly Eagles Fly!
