Los Angeles Clippers (14-11) @ Orlando Magic (5-20)
LAC -6.5 – No NBA team has fewer wins than the Magic, who are mired in a 9-game losing streak. Only the 6-win Spurs have an active streak that is worse, at 11-straight losses.

While Orlando fans are already exploring NBA lottery scenarios in December, the Clippers are looking to prove they are legitimate title contenders, adding John Wall to a core of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard this offseason.

Leonard returned from a 6-game absence to drill the game winner against the Hornets on Monday.

These teams are trending in entirely different directions and I expect the Clippers to keep getting better as their stars continue to gel.

The Clippers handle business convincingly on the road against a far inferior opponent here, and continue to build their team cohesion on a very talented roster worthy of the hype.

    PICK: LAC -6.5

Detroit Pistons (7-19) @ New Orleans Pelicans (15-8)
NOP -10.5 – The Pistons are on the heels of a back-to-back after defeating the Pistons to open their 3-game road trip.

Detroit is hoping for merrier times ahead after an abysmal 3-12 record in November, and missing key catalyst Cade Cunningham (shin) has played a big role in that.

On the flip side, the Pels are well-rested and in the midst of a 4-game winning streak. This includes winning 9 of the last 11 games, only losing to elite opponents in the Celtics and Grizzlies over that span.

Zion Williamson continues to elevate his game in year 3, and is posting career bests in free throw percentage and assists, which are 2 critical areas to refine to fully ascend to superstar status.

New Orleans is 4th in the NBA in scoring (117 PPG) and should pull away late and outgun the undermanned Pistons.

In the words of the late great Tony Montana, “Pelican Fly! Come on, Pelican!”

    PICK: NOP -10.5

    Boston Celtics (20-5) @ Phoenix Suns (16-8)
BOS ML PK – The assassins of the Atlantic meet the pride of the Pacific in the hump day nightcap on ESPN.

The Suns are looking to bounce back from an embarrassing 19-point loss in Dallas on Monday, where Luca Doncic had the luxury of enjoying the entire 4th from the bench.

Injuries have limited Phoenix recently, and they project to be without Chris Paul, Cameron Johnson and Jae Crowder again tonight.

Will they have enough offensive firepower to hang with the NBA’s highest scoring team? I don’t see it happening.

With all the well-deserved attention Jayson Tatum has garnered as a surefire MVP contender, Jaylen Brown has been far more than simply a trusted sidekick.

Brown’s 22-point effort yesterday was his lowest scoring output since November 17th, and he’s finished with 30+ points in 4 of the last 7 games.

Despite the potential fatigue factor, I’m all systems go on the Celtics who have showcased great rotational depth all season long under rookie Head Coach Joe Mazzula.

    PICK: BOS ML PK

    Bonus Player Props
Jose Alvarado (NOP) – Over 11.5 Points (-104)
Jaylen Brown (BOS) – Over 25.5 Points (-108)
