Group B kicks off with England taking on Iran. This will be our first look at one of the favorites of the tournament as England look to start their campaign off with an emphatic win over a lesser Team Melli. Behind only Brazil, France, & Argentina in odds to win World Cup 2022, England are an experienced & talented squad with plenty of depth to make a run. I expect captain Harry Kane to see plenty of opportunities in front of goal & put at least one of those in the back of the net with a talented supporting cast in Saka, Mount, & Sterling. Shaw & Tripper should see plenty of opportunities to get up the pitch with Declan Rice holding down the midfield & they’ll be serving up Kane left & right. Iran’s front 2 of Taremi & Jahanbakhsh have the talent to score goals themselves, though they might find themselves isolated with Iran set to line up in a 3-5-2 formation that will likely spend most of their time defending. I fancy the Three Lions to come out roaring in their opener & would back them to take all the points & put up at least 2 goals in the process.
