7:00 PM EST (ESPN) – #4 Kentucky @ Michigan State

While Michigan State will play as the home team, the 12th edition of the Champions Classic is held at a neutral venue in Indianapolis at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

This isn’t your “typical” John Calipari team, as the wildcats will likely only start one Freshman in highly touted Cason Wallace. The team will run through one of the most dominant players in the country, Senior big man Oscar Tshiebwe, who is likely to make his season debut tonight. Throw seniors Jacob Toppin and Iowa transfer CJ Frederick into the mix & this Wildcat team has all the pieces to make a run for a National Championship.

Spartan coach Tom Izzo said he thinks this is the best Kentucky team he has ever seen, for the reasons mentioned above. They have four really good seniors, and some Freshman All-American talent. Big blue by double digits tonight.

    PICK: Kentucky -7

    7:00 PM EST (ESPN+) – Mercer @ Georgia State

Long time Purdue assistant coach Greg Gary took over at the helm for Mercer in 2019, and led the Bears to a 48-38 record since. I bet against Mercer last week in a battle against ECU, and it wasn’t fun. They swarm on defense & have zero hesitation attacking on offense.

Georgia State lost to Georgia Tech in one of the uglier college basketball games I’ve ever watched. Neither team is great 3 point shooters or has any impressive & crafty offensive shot makers. Georgia State plays with a little bit more “unorganized chaos” than Mercer, but I’m not anticipating a pretty game.

I think it’s close down the stretch & Mercer takes advantage of some mistakes by the Panthers & potentially win outright.

    PICK: Mercer +2.5

    9:30 PM EST (ESPN) – #7 Duke @ #6 Kansas

The second game of the night at the Champions Classic in Indianapolis will feature our first top 10 matchup in College Basketball this season. We are officially back.

The Jon Scheyer era in Durham is off to a hot start. The Blue Devils haven’t been tested yet, but they’ll get their first test tonight against the defending champion Jayhawks. Kansas is in the same boat, with two blowout wins but yet to face a difficult opponent.

Duke will be without star Freshman Dariq Whitehead, while Kansas head coach Bill Self won’t be on the sideline due to suspension. Kansas Junior Jalen Wilson is the leading returning scorer from last years team and he will be charged with leading Kansas offensively. I expect Duke to let Freshman phenom Dereck Lively loose, as he was limited (14 minutes) in his only appearance this season due to a minor injury he’s dealing with. If Lively does get the minute restriction taken off, he will put the College Basketball world on notice tonight in a big way.

    PICK: Duke -1 (-110)
