Washington Commanders (4-5) @ Philadelphia Eagles (8-0)
Key Injury Watch:
WAS – OUT – (MLB) Cole Holcomb, (RB) JD McKissic
PHI – OUT – (CB) Avonte Maddox, (CB) Josh Jobe
With 4 teams at a combined 25-10, the NFC East is the winningest division in football.
The Eagles 8-0 start is well documented, but despite being in the NFC East cellar, the Commanders find themselves just a win shy of the .500 mark entering Week 10.
Veteran backup QB Taylor Heinicke has proven to be a calming presence, providing a necessary spark to Washington’s offense since assuming starting duties in Week 7.
Heinicke is now 2-1 as a starter in 2022, with his only loss by way of a last second field goal to the Vikings (8-1), who now own the second-best record in the NFL after upsetting the Bills in OT yesterday.
The Eagles will keep getting everyone’s best shot from here on out, and Washington obviously has a ton of familiarity with their fellow divisional rival. The Commanders seem to be rallying behind the gritty swagger in Heinicke’s game, and will not be intimidated in Philly.
Averaging a TD per game in his young career, rookie WR Jahan Dotson also returns from a 5-week absence on Monday Night Football. Dotson’s production will be key to Washington’s success as they look to keep pace with an Eagles offense that ranks 2nd overall in points per game (28.1 PPG).
The Eagles are legitimate Super Bowl contenders and are clearly the better team here, but I expect a prideful performance from the Commanders, who have a more realistic shot at the upset than Vegas gives them credit for.
