Atlanta Falcons (4-5) @ Carolina Panthers (2-7)
Game Preview:
There’s nothing pretty about the 10th episode of Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime.
The NFC South is the NFL’s only division without a single team above .500.
At 4-5, the Falcons enter Week 10 in a tie with the Bucs for the NFC South lead, and have a shot to get to the .500 mark tonight in North Carolina.
These 2 offenses are pretty uninspiring, with the Panthers generating just 289 YPG offensively, 3rd-worst in the NFL. The Falcons are marginally better at 320 YPG (8th worst).
While the Marcus Mariota-led passing attack has been putrid for the Falcons, the rushing attack is evolving into a bit of a 3-headed monster. Atlanta’s 163 rushing YPG is 4th-best in the NFL, largely due to highly efficient running from Cordarrelle Patterson (5.4 YPG), rookie Tyler Allgeier (4.5 YPG) and Mariota (5.1 YPG).
Defensively, these teams rank even worse, especially in terms of total yardage allowed. They are bottom 6 in the NFL in that category.
I do think the Falcons rushing attack is a lone bright spot to highlight for TNF, and it should be the difference here tonight in a matchup that looked far better on paper this offseason.
