    Game Preview:

Mac versus Zach. Arguably the least enticing QB matchup of Week 8, although Taylor Heinicke (Commanders) against Sam Ehlinger (Colts) should give them a run for their money.

The Patriots are in unfamiliar territory as the cellar-dwellers in the AFC East, while the Jets entered the week in elite company, as one of three 5-win teams in the entire AFC (with Bills and Chiefs).

Robert Saleh has the Jets playing some inspired football, with many similarities to their MetLife roommates, who are also out to a hot start. The Jets are grinding out wins with physicality on both sides of the line, and an emphasis on pounding the football on the ground.

Losing Breece Hall (ACL) is a massive hit to the Jets, but newcomer James Robinson is no slouch, and should fit in beautifully as the season rolls on. It’s uncertain how much of a role he’ll have this week after being acquired on Monday, so I’d expect to see a heavier dose of Michael Carter on Sunday.

New England was atrocious in all phases of the game last week against the Bears, and the underwhelming play of Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe appeared infectious.

After being embarrassed at home on Monday Night Football, including a public shaming of the incumbent franchise QB, Bill Belichick will have a field day in the film room this week.

The betting nod should favor the Jets with the clear momentum, but I’m too much of a believer in Bill to suggest that. This isn’t a game he loses. Do I trust this Patriots team? Absolutely not.

But the Patriots defense steps up Sunday and gets an ugly road victory, allowing Belichick to notch his 325th win and break the tie with Bears legend George Halas for 2nd-most wins of all-time.
