Game Analysis & Picks
Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles are off to an unexpected hot start this season with a 2-0 record and the current lead in the NFC East. On Monday night, Hurts steadily picked apart the Vikings, passing for 333 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT, and running for 57 yards with 2 TDs. In the first 2 weeks Philly averaged 190 yards per game on the ground and is currently ranked #2 in rushing offense. For passing, Eagles star WR A.J. Brown has racked up 224 yards in 2 weeks but is still looking for his first TD of the year. The Eagles’ offense is currently ranked #2 for “big plays”, with 12 runs for 10+ yards and 6 passes for 20+ yards. The offense is greased up and injury-free, but hopefully had enough of a layover since Monday.
Washington Commanders are 1-1 and coming off a disappointing loss in Detroit where the Commanders defense gave up three 50+ yard plays. Their run defense is also showing signs of weakness, giving up 7.5 yards per carry over 2 weeks. Their strengths are all on offense. Former Eagle, Carson Wentz, is 2nd overall in passing yards with 650 so far and has been jelling with his strong receiving in Curtis Samuel Jahan Dotson and Terry McLaurin. Injuries are a problem in Washington. Their defense is missing both ends and a DT. On offense, their starting center Chase Roullier is out with a reinjured knee and is backed up by Wes Schweitzer who will be playing this week on a bad hamstring.
The line for this game opened at Eagles -4 and slid to -6. I’m usually a fade-the-crowd guy but I think bettors are right to chase another hot performance by Jalen Hurtz. The Commanders’ injured defensive line won’t be able to control him, and he’ll have run-or-pass options all day. I’m riding with the Eagles -6 and since both QBs are hot right now I’m feeling a lot of TDs and taking the Over 47.5.
