Game Analysis & Picks
This is a fantastic offensive matchup on paper, as the revamped Las Vegas Raiders face the high-flying Los Angeles Chargers. Derek Carr will suit up alongside Davante Adams for the first time since 2013, when they were teammates at Fresno State. The Raiders also just doled out a 3-year extension to Darren Waller worth $51M in new money, and will have Hunter Renfrow returning from a 103-catch season in 2021.
For the Chargers, Justin Herbert has already produced at an elite level in the NFL, and is primed for a big Year 3 jump. Herbert is surrounded by a bevy of playmakers including Mike Williams, Keenan Allen, Josh Palmer and Austin Ekeler. This game also features some premium pass rushers guaranteed to bring the heat, notably Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack for the Chargers and Chandler Jones and Maxx Crosby for the Raiders. The biggest injury impact in this game is JC Jackson, who will be out of action for the Chargers.
There’s too much offensive firepower in this game to consider anything other than the Over here, and these teams have so many similarities that I’m intrigued by the Raiders getting more than a field goal. My top picks for this AFC West showdown is the Over 52 points (-109), and the Raiders to keep it close enough to cover the spread (+3.5).
Bonus Props
Davante Adams (LV) Over 6.5 Receptions (-120) & Over 77.5 Receiving Yards (-112) – Without JC Jackson, the Chargers will be shorthanded in dealing with Adams, and he’s bound to make a splash in his Raiders debut.
Mike Williams (LAC) Over 56.5 Receiving Yards – This is a huge value play that could hit on one deep shot from Herbert, and it’s more preferable to the Keenan Allen receiving line of 70 yards.
