Game Analysis & Picks
Lots of themes at play here in this week 1 matchup between the Ravens and Jets. Lamar Jackson coming off of a late season ankle injury last year that sidelined him down the stretch, Zach Wilson bowing out for a (now) extended timeframe due to injury, and Joe Flacco subsequently getting the nod at QB for the Jets against the team that moved on from him, against the QB who pushed him out of Baltimore.
Since taking over for Flacco as the Ravens QB, Lamar owns a 150.2 passer rating in his three prior season openers, with 9 touchdowns and 0 picks. If he keeps up that torrid pace on Sunday, there’s one name that comes to mind who should benefit most from another big opening day: Mark Andrews. As it is, facing off against the Jets defense is a dream matchup for Andrews, coming off a season in which he supplanted Travis Kelce in terms of real life and fantasy production at the TE position. The Jets surrendered the 4th most yards to TE’s last year and there is little reason to believe Lamar and Mark can’t exploit that weakness early and often this week. For the game, I’m going with the Ravens covering the spread (-108), and also taking the over on Mark Andrews receiving yards at 64.5 (-117).
Lamar Jackson O61.5 Rushing Yards (-113) – Speaking of Lamar, he is currently tied with Mike Vick for most 100 rushing yard games by a QB. After spending an offseason recovering while the media showered Josh Allen and Justin Herbert with praise, what better way is there to re-introduce yourself than by cementing your name in the record books? I’ll take Lamar rushing for over 61.5 yards on his way to 100+.
