Houston Astros (Urquidy) @ Atlanta Braves (Morton)
HOU ML (+140)- The Astros hope to avoid a 3 game sweep in Atlanta this afternoon against a red hot Braves club that has won 11 of their last 12. The Astros lost in extra innings last night but will have star hitter Yordan Alvarez back in the lineup today after sitting out yesterday following a brief health scare. Jose Urquidy is starting for Houston today and he has been a consistent presence in their rotation this year with a 11-4 record and 3.69 ERA over 127 innings and a 2.74 ERA going back to July 1st. The Braves counter with Charlie Morton who has been up and down this year with a 4.04 ERA over 129 innings. Two big things Morton needs to focus on are limiting his walks and keeping the ball in the yard. His 3.13 BB/9 is 13th in all of baseball and his 1.25 HR/9 is 14th in all of baseball. His ability to get strikeouts helps him get out of a lot of normal jams. The Braves are currently favored at -165 and it’s hard to pick against them given their recent success but I like the value anytime you can bet on the Astros at +140 so today I’m going with the Astros ML at +140.

Toronto Blue Jays (Manoah) @ New York Yankees (Cortes)
    TOR ML (+104)-
Since July 1st the Blue Jays are 21-21 and the Yankees are 17-26 including losing 14 of their last 17 games. This should be a great starting pitching matchup today between Alek Manoah and Nestor Cortes but both have experienced some headwinds recently. Cortes is coming off 3 straight losses that saw his ERA a full run higher than his season average and Manoah is coming off back to back losses against the Orioles. The Blue Jays offense is streaky but over the last 10 games they have averaged 5.8 runs scored. Both pitchers are capable of righting the ship today but I’m going with the Blue Jays offense to make the difference and for the Yankees to keep spiraling and going with the value of Blue Jays ML at +104.

Los Angeles Angels (Ohtani) @ Detroit Tigers (Rodriguez)
    LAA F5 3-way (-121)-
Ohtani continues to cruise along this year as one of the few bright spots in Anaheim (for now) compiling a 2.69 ERA and 2.49 FIP over 117 innings along with an eye-popping 12.69 K/9. According to Fangraphs he has put up 6.6 fWAR this year combined as a pitcher and hitter and the only player they rank higher is Aaron Judge at 7.5. What we get today from Eduardo Rodriguez is a complete mystery. He has not pitched in the Major Leagues since mid May when he went on the restricted list for personal reasons. He pitched 6 and 5 innings during his recent AAA rehab starts so he should be capable of a normal workload today. This matchup is the definition of a toilet bowl offensively with two of the three worst offenses in baseball going back to July 1st. The Tigers are 28th with a 74 wRC+ and the Angels are 30th with a 71 wRC+. Today I’m not reading into it too much and just betting on Ohtani for the first five innings at LAA F5 3-way (-121).
