San Francisco Giants (Wood) @ San Diego Padres (Snell)
SD F5 3-way (-115) – Blake Snell got off to a rocky start this year with a 4.80 ERA in May and 6.20 ERA in June but over his last 3 starts he has only allowed 2 earned runs in 17 innings. San Diego is still buzzing from their acquisition of Juan Soto and looks to bounce back from getting swept by the Dodgers to begin a series against their other primary division rival. Alex Wood is coming off a rough start against his former team a few miles down south where he gave up 6 earned runs in 5 innings. Wood has already pitched three times against the Padres this season and has combined for 7 earned runs in 14 innings. Snell pitched against the Giants last month and gave up 1 run in 6 innings. Tonight I’m going with the Padres and Snell and expecting them to bounce back and taking the -115 odds for them to be winning after 5.
Los Angeles Angels (Saurez) @ Oakland Athletics (Irvin)
LAA ML (+105)– It looks like the Angels will be without Mike Trout tonight for a scheduled rest day. This matchup between Jose Suarez and Cole Irvin is a repeat of the game from 8/2 where they both did pretty well; Irvin gave up 2 earned runs over 6 innings and Suarez gave up 1 unearned run over 5. Suarez is coming off back to back starts now where he has given up 0 earned runs. This group of Angels hitters has a history of hitting pretty well against Irvin- over 119 collective plate appearances they have a .313 batting average against him as a group. The A’s are favored to win this game and I like the value of the Angels ML at +105 and think the Angels win tonight in Oakland.
New York Yankees (Taillon) @ Seattle Mariners (Gilbert)
NYY ML (-113) – The Yankees are the best team in the American League with a 70-39 record and today they are getting relatively modest odds of -113 ML against the Mariners. That seems a little surprising since Logan Gilbert is on the mound for the Mariners today and last week he faced the Yankees and surrendered 6 earned runs and 3 home runs. Jameson Taillon has been pretty solid this year with a 3.96 ERA over 113 innings but he also faced the Mariners last week and gave up 5 earned runs. Neither pitcher here pitched well in the matchup last week but anytime I can take the Yankees offense and bullpen at -113 I’ll take my chances.
