New York Yankees (Montas) @ St. Louis Cardinals (Wainwright)
    STL ML (+117) –
New Yankees pitcher Frankie Montas makes his debut in pinstripes this afternoon against Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals. Montas and Wainwright have both been good this year with a 3.18 ERA over 104 innings and a 3.11 ERA over 130 innings respectively. It will be interesting to see how Montas settles into pitching on a new team with a new catcher and pitching coach, it would be impressive if he is able make a seamless transition like Montgomery did last night. One stat to consider is that Wainwright has performed well historically against this group of Yankee hitters combining for a .198 batting average against over 115 previous plate appearances. Wainwright has also pitched well lately allowing only 1 ER over the last 14 innings. This should be a good matchup between two first place clubs but I’m going with the value of the Cardinals to win at +117.

Chicago White Sox (Giolito) @ Texas Rangers (Howard)
    CWS F5 3-way (-103)
    – Rangers starter Spencer Howard is coming off a rough start against the Orioles where he gave up 6 earned runs over 4 innings and also had a fly ball/ground ball ratio of 11:4 which usually isn’t good. He was a 2nd round pick by the Phillies and once considered a promising prospect but has struggled with a recurring shoulder injury over the past couple of years. He’s struggled most of this year compiling a 6.82 ERA over 34 innings with a 3.67 BB/9. Giolito has been a little inconsistent this year but if you look at his game log, most of his bad starts have come against either division rivals that know him well or elite offenses like Toronto and Houston and the Rangers are neither (98 wRC+). Rolling the dice that we get good Giolito today and that Howard’s struggles continue and going with Chi Sox F5 3-way (-103)

Atlanta Braves (Strider) @ New York Mets (deGrom)
    NYM F5 3-way (-110) –
Let’s not overthink this one- betting on Jacob deGrom for the first five innings. The Mets are favored overall (-148 ML) and the Braves are a good team but the main reason this F5 line is so close is because Braves starter Spencer Strider is having a great year and emerging as a dominant starting pitcher. This matchup might take the cake for the season for most 100 MPH fastballs by starters combined in a game. deGrom looked sharp in his first start back last week with 1 ER and 6 K over 5 innings. Strider has put up some exceptional numbers this year with a 2.79 ERA over 87 innings with some impressive underlying numbers with a 13.76 K/9 and 1.97 FIP. One factor to keep an eye on is that Strider faced the Mets less than a month ago with some success but it’ll be interesting to see if they make any adjustments this time around. The Braves will be a tough matchup for deGrom but I’m still rolling with the Mets for the F5 3-way (-110).
