New York Mets (Walker) @ Chicago Cubs (Stroman)
NYM ML (-124) – Walker has registered quality starts in 6-straight outings for the NL East leading Mets, and brings his 2.63 ERA to Wrigley today. The Cubs have dropped 7-straight games, and it won’t get any easier for Chicago’s stumbling offense that ranks in the bottom third of the MLB in runs scored. These odds are a bit shocking to me given that the Cubs have managed just 34 wins on the season, compared to 56 wins by the Mets. A win differential of 22 is pretty massive at the midway point of the year, and at nearly even odds, I’m jumping on the Mets (-124) in the early window of the MLB Saturday slate.
Atlanta Braves (Fried) @ Washington Nationals (Espino)
ATL -1.5 (-143) & WAS U3.5 (-130) – The defending World Series Champion Braves have been red-hot the past couple months, starting June on a 14-game win streak, and now off to an 11-4 start in July. Fried’s 9 wins and 2.56 ERA both rank 5th among NL starters, and he faces a hapless Nationals squad that has lost 8 straight games, including dropping 14 of their last 15. These are 2 teams very much cruising in opposite directions, and there’s no logical reason to fade the Braves here. I’m most confident Atlanta’s runline (-143) and the Nationals team total under (3.5 runs) in a toasty one in DC today.
Seattle Mariners (Gilbert) @ Texas Rangers (Howard)
SEA ML (-150) & SEA -1.5 (+115) – I’m staying onboard the Mariners train for back-to-back days after they took down the Rangers 8-3 last night, behind defending Cy Young winner Robbie Ray, for their 12th straight win. Seattle hasn’t lost a series since mid-June and is clearly firing on all cylinders. They hand the ball over to their #2 starter in Logan Gilbert, who has been highly reliable all season, with a 2.80 ERA that ranks 8th in the AL. A victory today for Gilbert would tie him with Jusin Verlander (11) for most wins in the AL. I’m banking on that to happen and plugging their moneyline (-150) into a parlay, along with the runline (+115) on the side.
