Cincinnati Reds (Ashcraft) @ New York Yankees (Cole)
NYY SFAW (-106)- Yankees are incredibly heavy favorites tonight at -335 ML because they are much better than the Reds. The Yankees currently have the best record in baseball at 61-25 while the Reds have the 2nd worst record in the NL at 32-54. As of today, the Yankees have the best offense in all of baseball (119 wRC+) over the course of the season. Tonight we are going with the value of simply opting for the Yankees to score first while also winning, dropping the odds from -335 to -106.
Chicago White Sox (Cease) @ Cleveland Guardians (Pilkington)
CWS F5 3-way (-127)- Dylan Cease was one of the most notable snubs from the All Star Game this season. Over 92 innings he had a 2.45 ERA and 13.01 K/9; the fact he didn’t make the All Star Game is borderline shocking with those numbers. I guess that just reinforces how bad the voting system is that allows fan bases like New York to get undeserving players into the game year after year. Today I think there is a clear disparity in the quality of starting pitchers between Cease and Pilkington so I’m going with the relative value of -127 for Cease and the White Sox to be ahead after 5.
Boston Red Sox (Sale) @ Tampa Bay Rays (Kluber)
BOS F5 3-way (+108)- Red Sox ace Sale is back this week and the Sox look to improve upon their 4-6 streak over their last 10. Having their staff anchor back this week should go a long way to getting them back on the right track to their previous winning ways. The Red Sox faced Kluber back on 7/6 so I expect them to make some adjustments and have more success against him than they had last week. This week I’m going with Sale and the Red Sox to be in the lead after 5 innings.
